Borderlands 4 is just days away from launch, and to usher in the next era of this looter-shooter, developer Gearbox has unveiled a fresh live-action trailer. It invites players to “quit” Earth and journey to the planet Kairos. Certainly, Kairos is ruled by an all-powerful dictator who enforces his will upon the populace with invasive, behavior-altering technology, posing a high risk of death if removed. However, considering the current state of affairs on Earth (frantically waves hands), this might not be considered a critical flaw.
The period between Borderlands 4`s official announcement and its arrival on PC and consoles has been relatively brief. Gearbox first showcased the game – after hinting at it for months – during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. There, a new world awaiting Vault Hunters was revealed, promising even more loot as they battle against the sinister forces controlling Kairos.
Over the past few months, Gearbox has disclosed a substantial amount of information about the game, including detailed looks at the four Vault Hunters players will have the option to control. These include Harlowe, powered by science; Rafa, a living advertisement for Tediore weapons; Amon, a not-so-gentle giant; and Vex, a Siren – all prepared for this new adventure.
Gearbox also recently discussed the game`s tone and how the studio aimed to create a grounded sense of humor. Surprisingly, the Borderlands 3 expansions served as a significant source of inspiration for this approach. Borderlands 4 is set to launch on September 12 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version expected in October.
