As Evo 2025 commences today, a flood of fighting game news is anticipated throughout the weekend. Atari, Digital Eclipse, and NetherRealm Studios have already made a significant announcement: Mortal Kombat Trilogy, the fan-favorite 2D Mortal Kombat title from the mid-1990s featuring an extensive roster, is officially part of the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection, set to launch later this year.
A newly released 30-second trailer not only confirms Trilogy`s presence in the Legacy Collection but also showcases brief gameplay footage from the 1996 fighter. Furthermore, Atari has confirmed that attendees of Evo 2025 can experience Mortal Kombat Trilogy firsthand at the Atari booth, playing the version that will be featured in the Legacy Collection.
In addition to Mortal Kombat Trilogy`s integration, Atari has detailed that the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection will be available in three distinct editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Kollector`s. The Deluxe edition is set to include a steelbook case, a magnet, a poster, and other bonuses, while the premium Kollector`s Edition will boast a unique controller holder sculpted in the likeness of the four-armed Goro, an exclusive arcade token commemorating the collection, among other collectibles.
Atari and Digital Eclipse initially unveiled the Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection during a PlayStation State Of Play event in June. The original announcement trailer confirmed the inclusion of multiple core Mortal Kombat titles. The Legacy Collection will also offer in-depth interviews with pivotal figures behind the MK franchise, including co-creators Ed Boon and John Tobias.
Meanwhile, Evo 2025 is scheduled to take place from August 1st to 3rd at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Official Evo social media channels have hinted at upcoming announcements and appearances related to games such as Invincible Vs., Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and 2XKO.
