Mortal Kombat 2 Poster’s Witty Jab at Tom Cruise & Mission: Impossible

While fans eagerly await the first trailer for the upcoming “Mortal Kombat 2” film, a fresh poster featuring Johnny Cage has been unveiled. This promotional artwork, advertising Cage`s fictional movie “Uncaged Fury,” cleverly parodies Tom Cruise`s iconic style from “Mission: Impossible.” It`s an amusing homage, though perhaps not quite as legendary as Cage`s acclaimed “Ninja Mime.”

Karl Urban, known for his roles in “Dredd” and “The Boys,” embodies Johnny Cage in “Mortal Kombat 2.” Cage, a seasoned martial artist who built a successful Hollywood career on his skills, frequently incorporates film industry references and high-octane action into his in-game appearances. Details about the sequel have been sparse, but it`s confirmed that most of the original cast will return to confront Shao Kahn and his forces from Outworld.

With Earthrealm having endured nine consecutive defeats in the “Mortal Kombat” tournament, the upcoming film represents their final opportunity to prevent being absorbed by Outworld. “Mortal Kombat 2” is scheduled to premiere on October 24, 2025.

Meanwhile, the landscape for “Mortal Kombat” video games is also experiencing notable shifts. Support for “Mortal Kombat 1” is concluding after the release of its definitive edition, as NetherRealm Studios announced their pivot to developing their next major project.

For devotees of classic “Mortal Kombat” titles, a special treat is on the horizon: a compilation of arcade classics is currently in development. Digital Eclipse and NetherRealm recently revealed the “Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection,” set to feature arcade, handheld, and console games from the franchise`s nascent years.

This collection will comprise 10 games, enhanced with modern features such as rollback netcode. Consistent with their prior projects like “Tetris Forever” and “Atari 50,” Nightdive will also grant players a behind-the-scenes perspective on these vintage games through archival footage and new interviews.
