Minecraft 1.21.9: The Copper Age Update – Release Date & Contents

The next major Minecraft update is officially titled “The Copper Age.” Traditionally, new update details are revealed during Minecraft Live events. With an event scheduled for September 27th, players anticipate the full release date to be announced then, possibly coinciding with the update`s launch itself.

Next Minecraft Update Release Date

The “The Copper Age” update is projected for release in September 2025. Mojang has committed to four updates annually. Given the September Minecraft Live event, there`s strong anticipation for “The Copper Age” to be released around that time. Mojang has stated it will be released “later this year.” This update would mark the third game release of 2025, with one more potentially coming in December 2025.

Players who engage with the game`s Snapshots feature, which allows early access to beta content, may already be familiar with some of the update`s upcoming additions.

New Minecraft Update Features

While specific details about the upcoming Minecraft update are still limited, it`s confirmed to introduce numerous new applications for Copper, alongside the highly anticipated Copper Golem.

Copper Golem

The Copper Golem is a new player-crafted mob arriving with “The Copper Age” update. It can be summoned by placing a carved pumpkin on top of a copper block. Unlike other golems, it does not spawn naturally. The Copper Golem is an exceptional organizer; upon creation, it spawns with a copper chest. Players can place items into this chest, and the Golem will sort them into other matching chests nearby. Both the Golem and its chest will oxidize over time, similar to other copper blocks. Once fully oxidized, it transforms into a decorative statue, freezing in one of four unique poses. Players can easily summon a new Copper Golem after this occurs, or use an axe to scrape the oxidation and reactivate it. To prevent oxidation and keep its shiny orange appearance indefinitely, the Golem can be waxed with honeycomb.

If left as a statue, interacting with it allows players to cycle through its poses. When connected to a redstone comparator, each pose emits a different signal, offering exciting possibilities for redstone enthusiasts to create complex contraptions. Mojang has also hinted at a “too cute to miss” interaction when the Copper Golem encounters the game`s existing Iron Golem.

Copper Weapons, Tools, and Armor

The “The Copper Age” update introduces a new line of equipment crafted from copper, including a pickaxe, axe, hoe, shovel, and sword. Copper tools offer greater durability than stone and are more readily available than iron, positioning them as a valuable intermediate option for early-game progression. Additionally, players and their horses can now equip copper armor – comprising a helmet, chestplate, leggings, and boots. Copper armor is easier to obtain than iron armor but provides superior durability compared to leather armor.

Decorative Copper Blocks

As expected from a copper-themed update, new decorative items made from copper are being added. These include copper lanterns, torches, chains, and bars, providing new options for base aesthetics, perhaps even for creating more visually distinct prison cells. Remember that copper oxidizes over time, causing these items to gradually turn turquoise. Applying honeycomb can wax them, preserving their initial orange hue.

Shelves

For years, players have desired better ways to display items beyond item frames. The new shelf blocks fulfill this need, capable of showcasing up to three items each. Shelves can be connected to form extensive display and storage rows. Players can quickly swap items by interacting with a shelf. For redstone enthusiasts, shelves can be powered to allow for the simultaneous swapping of nine items, expanding their functional potential.

Dye Art Changes

The icons for dyes have been updated. Previously, distinguishing between different dyes could be challenging, particularly for players with color blindness. Now, each dye possesses a unique shape, making them more visually distinct and easier to differentiate.
