If you were planning to acquire an Xbox console for the holidays, it might be wise to act sooner, as Microsoft has once again announced a price increase for its consoles, effective October 3.
Starting October 3, the most affordable Xbox on the market, the 512GB Xbox Series S, will be priced at $400 in the US. The most expensive Xbox Series X model, featuring a disc drive and 2TB of storage, will cost $800. Here are the other price adjustments for the Xbox lineup:
- Xbox Series S 512GB — $400 (previously $380)
- Xbox Series S 1TB — $450 (previously $430)
- Xbox Series X Digital — $600 (previously $550)
- Xbox Series X — $650 (previously $500)
- Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition — $800 (previously $730)
This marks the second price hike initiated by Microsoft this year, following an earlier increase in May. In its announcement, Microsoft attributes these price adjustments to “changes in the macroeconomic environment.” Prices outside the US will remain unaffected.
The rising cost of consoles, games, and accessories has been a concerning trend over the past year. This is widely believed to be connected to tariffs imposed by the current US administration, though few companies have explicitly confirmed this.
Nonetheless, PlayStation similarly adjusted its prices upwards earlier this year. Furthermore, pre-orders for the Switch 2 were briefly delayed in the US while Nintendo deliberated its options. Upon the console`s eventual release, many game and accessory prices exceeded audience expectations, and just last month, Nintendo also increased the price of the original Switch.
These price changes could significantly impact holiday shopping plans for many gamers in the United States, urging potential buyers to consider their purchases before the new pricing takes effect.
