Konami`s highly anticipated Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a modern update to the two-decade-old Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, is set to launch later this month. Should this remaster prove successful, it might not be the last time Konami revisits a classic entry in the beloved Metal Gear Solid franchise.
When questioned about the potential for further MGS remakes, Delta producer Yuji Korekado stated in an interview with Game Informer, “At the moment, we are focused on delivering Delta in the best possible way to the current generation. Once this game is released, if fans express a desire for more after playing it, then we would like to consider many other games in the future. For now, this is it.”
Producer Noriaki Okamura echoed this sentiment, adding, “We are always thinking about what we could do for the Metal Gear series. However, regarding remaking future titles, we are currently focused on the present, and we believed this was the best approach to engage both long-time fans and new audiences.”
Among the most frequently requested titles for a remake is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which has remained exclusive to the PS3 for 17 years. The original trilogy was made available on modern consoles in 2023 with the release of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1.
In a separate discussion, Okamura and Korekado revealed their intention to eventually pass the franchise`s creative reins to a new generation of developers if Konami decides to produce new Metal Gear Solid games. Franchise creator Hideo Kojima recently indicated he would not play the new MGS Delta, despite Okamura expressing admiration for Kojima and a desire for future collaboration on the series.
Ahead of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater`s August 28 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Konami announced that Platinum Games contributed to a new version of Snake`s Nightmare, a secret mode from the original title. Additionally, David Hayter, the original voice actor for Solid Snake, shared his perspective on Metal Gear Solid 5, notably the only main entry in the series where he did not voice the iconic character.
