Mario Kart Tour Revives Content Updates After Years, Fueled by Mario Kart World

Nearly two years after Nintendo announced that Mario Kart Tour would no longer receive fresh content, this policy has seemingly reversed. The mobile game is set to host a special event next week, coinciding with the launch of Mario Kart World on the Switch 2.

The official Mario Kart Tour account on X (formerly Twitter) revealed details of this special campaign, which will introduce Mario and Luigi in mechanic attire. Furthermore, four new karts will be added to the app when the event commences on July 23, running for two weeks until August 6.

This Mario Kart World special campaign is integrated into the returning Sunshine Tour, a recurring event first seen in 2023. Nintendo previously declared in September 2023 that Mario Kart Tour would cease new content updates, instead opting to re-run existing tours like the Sunshine Tour. Despite this, an analytics firm reported in 2021 that Mario Kart Tour had amassed 200 million downloads and generated $200 million in revenue.

Mario Kart World launched last month, alongside the new Switch 2 console. Reports indicate a significant attachment rate, with 79% of Switch 2 purchasers also acquiring the racing title. This impressive figure was likely enhanced by Nintendo`s offering of a Switch 2 bundle that included Mario Kart World.
