Lego Soundwave Transformers 2-in-1 Model Now Available for Insiders

The third collectible Transformers figure from Lego, the iconic Decepticon Soundwave, is now available for members of the Lego Insiders program. This 1,505-piece model, priced at $190, is a temporary exclusive at the Lego Store. Participation in the free Insiders program allows you to purchase the set before its official August 4 launch. A key feature of Soundwave is its 2-in-1 transformation: it seamlessly converts from robot mode to a cassette player and back again. Given the high demand for previous Lego Transformers sets (Optimus Prime and Bumblebee), it is advisable to acquire Soundwave during the early access period, as exclusive sets often become scarce, leading to long waits (up to 60 days).

Below are all the details about the Lego Icons: Transformers: Soundwave set. If you haven`t yet acquired the previous sets featuring the iconic Autobots, you can save 20% on Optimus Prime at Target and a few dollars on Bumblebee at Walmart. The deal for Optimus Prime at Amazon and Walmart has already sold out.

Lego Icons: Transformers Series Overview

  • Soundwave (1,505 pieces) — $190
  • Optimus Prime (1,508 pieces) — $144 (originally $180)
  • Bumblebee (950 pieces) — $86 (originally $90)

The first Decepticon to join the Lego Transformers collection is a worthy rival to the leader of the Autobots. The Soundwave model is comparable to Optimus Prime in terms of overall size and piece count. The 13-inch Soundwave figure is only slightly shorter than Optimus (13.5 inches). Soundwave consists of 1,505 pieces, just three bricks fewer than the 1,508 pieces required to build Optimus.

Soundwave`s design, like Optimus and Bumblebee, is based on his G1 era appearance. He is armed with a large laser blaster and features a shoulder-mounted rocket pod with darts.

The main highlight of all three Lego Transformers sets is the ability to transform the completed figure from robot mode into an alternative form. For Optimus and Bumblebee, this means a truck and a classic Beetle, respectively. Soundwave, however, transforms into his signature cassette player. Switching between modes happens without the need to reassemble parts, which is unique for 2-in-1 Lego sets that typically require partial disassembly and rebuilding.

Soundwave also boasts unique features not found in the other sets. He is accompanied by small buildable versions of Ravage and Laserbeak. These companions also have 2-in-1 designs, converting into cassette tapes that can be stored in the cassette deck. Furthermore, this is the only set in the series with sound effects: Soundwave can play action sounds and dialogue lines by pressing the play button below the tape deck.

The Soundwave kit is completed with a buildable display plaque featuring an information card and a cassette tape minifigure.

Soundwave is among many new Lego sets released on August 1. For fans of robots and mechs, the new Lego Fortnite: Mecha Team Leader set might be of interest. This 2,503-piece model is the largest Fortnite set to date and significantly surpasses the Transformers figures in height, standing at 17.5 inches.
