Lego Debuts New Star Wars Sets, Featuring Ultimate Collector Series AT-ST Walker

On August 1st, Lego introduced a collection of nine new Star Wars playsets and display models, prominently featuring its latest Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) creation designed for adult enthusiasts. This highly detailed, 1,513-piece replica of the AT-ST Walker transport vehicle is priced at $200, making it the most affordable current offering within Lego`s exclusive UCS range.

While the AT-ST Walker UCS was unveiled in early July, initial pre-orders were exclusively available through Amazon. With its official launch, the AT-ST Walker is now obtainable from various retailers. Additionally, Jango Fett`s Firespray-Class Starship, a 2,970-piece UCS model from Attack of the Clones that debuted for Star Wars Day, is no longer exclusive to the Lego Store and can now be purchased for $300 via Amazon.

Detailed Look at the UCS AT-ST Walker

The All Terrain Scout Transport, widely known as the AT-ST, has been an iconic vehicle in the Star Wars cinematic universe since its debut in The Empire Strikes Back. This 1,513-piece Lego set offers a highly accurate recreation, closely resembling the version seen in Return of the Jedi.

Once assembled, the model stands at 14.5 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches and boasts several interactive features. These include an opening top hatch revealing the cockpit, a rotatable head, adjustable viewport shutters, and movable laser cannons. The AT-ST is famously recognized for its distinctive, chicken-like walking motion. Lego`s rendition captures this perfectly with articulated legs, allowing it to mimic the “chicken walker” movement.

As an Ultimate Collector Series set, this AT-ST incorporates an abundance of intricate details that surpass those found in standard Lego playsets. Its spacious two-person cockpit features fine elements that faithfully align with the vehicle`s movie appearances. UCS models are also characterized by their refined layering and minimal visible studs, a quality evident in the promotional imagery. Building an Ultimate Collector Series set is typically a more intricate process, making the AT-ST and other UCS kits ideal for experienced builders aged 18 and above.

Consistent with other UCS Star Wars builds and large-scale display models, the AT-ST comes complete with an informative display plaque and an exclusive minifigure. Fittingly, this set includes an AT-ST Driver minifigure.

Other Notable August Releases

While most other new Lego kits in the August collection are aimed at younger Star Wars enthusiasts, adult builders may find particular interest in two larger, buildable character figures. Lego has introduced an endearing 1,010-piece Wicket the Ewok model, inspired by Return of the Jedi, and an 845-piece K-2SO Security Droid from Rogue One.

Notably, a tenth new offering is available as a discounted bundle: the Epic Battle Set, which includes two existing sets along with a bonus miniature Millennium Falcon (Lego Polybag). Furthermore, Walmart has launched an exclusive 3-in-1 Lego Star Wars Gift Set for $45 this week, which is expected to sell out quickly.

The Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series Overview

This latest AT-ST model marks the second iteration of the vehicle in Lego`s Ultimate Collector Series. The original AT-ST UCS set, released in 2006, has long been retired. The new version boasts significantly greater detail, partly due to its approximately 500 additional pieces, but also reflecting Lego`s continuous advancements in design complexity over the years.

As previously highlighted, the $200 AT-ST Walker currently stands as the most budget-friendly set within the Lego Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series. Several other UCS sets are also available for under $250, including the TIE Interceptor Starfighter, X-Wing Starfighter, and Luke Skywalker`s Landspeeder.
