Leaked Battlefield 6 Skin Sparks “Fortnitification” Backlash Among Players

While the Battlefield 6 beta generally garnered a positive reception, a vocal segment of the player community has expressed staunch opposition to the game embracing the “Fortnitification” trend, a design philosophy that has become prevalent in the Call of Duty franchise. Despite earlier assurances from Vince Zampella, head of Battlefield Studios, that Battlefield 6 would “stay true to Battlefield,” a recently leaked cosmetic skin has ignited a strong reaction, with players signaling to EA their unwillingness to accept similar unconventional outfits.

The leaked lime green on black aesthetic, though not as overtly cartoonish as some of the themed skins (like Beavis and Butt-Head or American Dad) found in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, nevertheless appears to deviate from the realistic military look favored by many dedicated Battlefield fans. The individual who originally posted the leak, known as “SpiritualBacon,” encouraged the fanbase to voice their concerns promptly, fearing that EA might introduce even more fantastical designs if unchecked.

This isn`t the first time concerns about non-traditional cosmetics have arisen within the Battlefield community. However, any concerted effort to keep the game free of crossovers might struggle to gain widespread traction, primarily because the sale of character skins has proven to be an incredibly lucrative revenue stream for Activision with Call of Duty. Given EA`s consistent pursuit of profitable opportunities, it`s unlikely they would completely overlook such a potent financial model, though no specific plans for Battlefield 6 crossovers or collaborations have been officially announced to date.

Looking ahead, EA is scheduled to reveal comprehensive details about Battlefield 6`s single-player story mode on September 26. This announcement follows the earlier unveiling of the game`s battle royale mode this month. Battlefield 6 is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms on October 10.
