Kojima’s Cinematic Aspirations: Desired Collaborations with Deceased Hollywood Icons

Hideo Kojima, the celebrated writer-director known for his groundbreaking video games, recently revealed his profound wish to have collaborated with two iconic, now-deceased, Hollywood figures: Steve McQueen and David Lynch. Speaking to IndieWire, Kojima expressed that McQueen, whom he reveres as a childhood hero despite the actor`s passing 45 years ago, remains someone he hopes to integrate into a future project, even if achieved through advanced CG technology.

Kojima also shared his long-held desire to cast the visionary filmmaker and actor David Lynch in one of his games. He conveyed his deep admiration for Lynch and described feeling “devastated” by his passing earlier this year in January.

While these dream collaborations with McQueen and Lynch ultimately remained unfulfilled, Kojima has a notable history of bringing various Hollywood talents into his game development. His acclaimed title Death Stranding, for example, featured appearances from directors Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Edgar Wright, Guillermo del Toro, and Nicolas Winding Refn. Looking ahead, Kojima is set to team up with Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele for the upcoming game OD, although the precise nature of their partnership is yet to be fully detailed.

Kojima`s most recent major release was Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, which arrived on PS5 in June. In addition to OD, he is also actively developing an espionage-themed game called Physint in collaboration with Sony. During the same IndieWire interview, Kojima disclosed that Physint is still in its very nascent conceptual phase, with him currently being the sole individual working on its initial development.
