Kojima Has Developed the Concept for Death Stranding 3, But Has No Immediate Plans to Create It

Game director and writer Hideo Kojima has discussed the future of the Death Stranding franchise. He stated that while he currently has no plans to personally develop Death Stranding 3, he has already conceptualized the game.

“I am not planning to do [Death Stranding 3] at the moment,” Kojima recently stated through a translator at an event in Riyadh. He explained, “Because the ending of Death Stranding 2 was my finale for 1 and 2. But I already wrote the concept of DS3.” He further expressed, “I hope that someone will create it for me.”

These remarks echo previous statements Kojima made even before the release of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, indicating his consistent stance on the matter.

This situation bears a resemblance to Naughty Dog`s approach to the Uncharted series. After developing several successful titles, the studio expressed openness to another developer taking over the reins for future installments.

The Death Stranding games have achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. Kojima is also expanding the universe with a movie adaptation in collaboration with A24. While a third game presents a clear business opportunity, Kojima is currently preoccupied with numerous other ambitious projects.

Presently, Hideo Kojima is working on “OD,” a new game in partnership with Oscar-winning director Jordan Peele and Xbox, as well as an espionage-themed title called “Physint” with Sony.

Kojima recently celebrated his 62nd birthday. Unlike many individuals his age who might consider retirement, Kojima affirmed his intention to continue creating until his last days.
