King K. Rool Donkey Kong Amiibo Returns After Years of Being Sold Out

Fresh off the release of Donkey Kong Bananza, Nintendo is reintroducing the long-unavailable King K. Rool Amiibo figure. This reprint of Donkey Kong`s main antagonist (excluding DK himself, of course) will launch on September 4. It is available for preorder at Best Buy. King K. Rool marks the first Amiibo reprint since Nintendo adjusted original Switch Amiibo prices from $16 to $20.

The King K. Rool figure can be paired with the Donkey Kong & Pauline Amiibo, which was released in July this year alongside a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, priced at $30.

The original King K. Rool Amiibo debuted in 2019 as part of the Super Smash Bros. series. This Donkey Kong villain was one of many Amiibo figures that remained out of print for years. Resellers on Amazon often listed King K. Rool for over $50, with eBay prices typically around $40. Therefore, despite the upcoming reprint`s adjusted $20 price (up from its original $16), it remains significantly cheaper than what many collectors have paid for the figure in recent years.

If you plan to add King K. Rool to your Amiibo collection, preordering is highly recommended. It is currently uncertain whether retailers other than Best Buy will stock this reprint, but we will update this information as new listings appear.

Hopefully, Nintendo will soon re-release other Amiibo figures from the Donkey Kong series as well.

Over the years, only a few Donkey Kong Amiibo figures have been produced, and regrettably, most remain out of print. The Nintendo Store recently restocked the 2016 Diddy Kong Amiibo for $20. Only DK, King K. Rool, Diddy, and Pauline have been immortalized as Amiibo figures, and the Bananza Amiibo was the first new DK Amiibo since King K. Rool`s debut six years ago.

Resale prices for some of the out-of-print Donkey Kong Amiibo figures are not too high, especially considering each would retail for approximately $20 if reprinted today.

  • Donkey Kong`s Tree House (555 pieces) – $60
  • Diddy Kong`s Mine Cart Ride (1,157 pieces) – $87 (was $110)
  • Dixie Kong`s Jungle Jam (174 pieces) – $18 (was $27)

Similar to Amiibo, Donkey Kong and his crew have been featured in only a handful of Lego sets. Specifically, five retail building sets. Lego discontinued all four DK-themed sets from the Lego Super Mario line late last year, but Amazon has restocked them all ahead of the Donkey Kong Bananza release. A couple of these sets are also discounted. Donkey Kong is also part of the Lego Mario Kart line, which launched earlier this year and is still actively in production. Fans can purchase Donkey Kong and his DK Jumbo barrel kart for $29.49 on Amazon.
