Keanu Reeves Ready to Reprise Johnny Silverhand Role in Cyberpunk 2

Actor Keanu Reeves, who famously portrayed Johnny Silverhand in CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077, has expressed his keen interest in returning for the game’s eagerly anticipated sequel, currently in its early pre-production phase.

Speaking with IGN, the acclaimed “Matrix” star affirmed his enthusiasm, stating he would “absolutely” be willing to reprise the iconic role. Reeves himself conveyed his sentiment directly: “I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

Johnny Silverhand, a legendary rockstar, makes his appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 as a digital engram, long after his physical demise. His ultimate fate within the game is dynamically influenced by player choices, which suggests a potential narrative pathway for his reappearance in “Cyberpunk 2.” However, his return is not yet confirmed, as it would depend on a complex interplay of narrative decisions and developmental factors. While it remains uncertain if Reeves might portray Silverhand in any non-game adaptations, his unequivocal desire to engage with the character again in some capacity is clear.

The sequel, currently carrying the working title “Cyberpunk 2,” officially commenced pre-production earlier this year. As of July 31, 2025, CD Projekt Red reported 116 individuals actively working on the project, an increase from 96 just three months prior. Despite this, the majority of the studio’s creative and technical staff are predominantly focused on their next major release: “The Witcher 4.”

Upon its debut in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 encountered significant technical difficulties, issues so severe that Sony temporarily removed the game from sale. Despite these initial considerable obstacles, Cyberpunk 2077 achieved impressive sales figures at launch, subsequently climbing to surpass 30 million units sold by November 2024. CD Projekt Red’s unwavering commitment to supporting and extensively improving the game experience ultimately transformed it into a standout example of a successful comeback story in the industry.

Very limited information has been disclosed regarding “Cyberpunk 2.” Nevertheless, developer Dan Hernberg has characterized it as a “uniquely American story.” He elaborated on this vision, noting the game’s “punk energy” and the fact that the original tabletop role-playing game was conceived by an American, which makes a US-centric narrative feel appropriate. He also mentioned that the lead developers for the sequel are based in Boston.

Regarding a release date, this remains entirely speculative and is anticipated to be some time away, particularly as “The Witcher 4” is slated for release before “Cyberpunk 2” is ready for its grand unveiling.
