Despite the immense popularity of the John Wick films, the selection of video games where players can control the legendary assassin is quite limited. Soon, that selection will become even smaller, as the tactical action-RPG John Wick Hex is set to be removed from digital storefronts on PC and consoles this week.
Big Fan Games, the current publisher, announced this development on the game`s Steam page. The delisting is scheduled for July 17th. However, players who purchase John Wick Hex before this date, as well as owners of physical copies, will retain full access to the game.
No official reason for the discontinuation of sales was provided, but the most plausible explanation is the expiration of licensing rights for the John Wick brand. John Wick Hex was originally released by Good Shepherd Entertainment on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. In 2024, the publishing rights were transferred to Big Fan Games, a subsidiary of Devolver Digital.
Lionsgate, the studio owning the franchise rights, previously confirmed that it had considered various proposals for a high-budget AAA John Wick game in 2022 and 2023, but no concrete announcements have emerged yet. More recently, the character Eve Macarro from the “Ballerina” spinoff, portrayed by Ana de Armas, made an appearance as a playable character in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone.
