John Carpenter’s Toxic Commando: A Gory Zombie-Slaying FPS Unleashed in 2026

After a two-year silence, the highly anticipated first-person shooter, Toxic Commando, from acclaimed horror maestro John Carpenter has finally broken cover. A thrilling new trailer for this action-packed horror title debuted during Gamescom`s Opening Night Live, giving fans a clearer glimpse into its world and confirming an early 2026 release window.

Developed by Focus Entertainment, Toxic Commando thrusts players into a desolate, post-apocalyptic setting. The Earth has been ravaged by an eldritch horror known as the Sludge God, which has transformed the vast majority of humanity into grotesque, zombie-like creatures. The game centers on a hardened squad of well-armed mercenaries, battling their way across the ravaged country on a critical mission.

The game aims to capture the distinctive blend of over-the-top humor and chilling horror that defined Carpenter`s iconic 1980s films, such as Escape From New York, while also drawing inspiration from classic buddy action movies. Players can team up in squads of up to four, strategically choosing their characters, classes, vehicles, and a vast arsenal of weapons. Adding to its accessibility and collaborative spirit, Toxic Commando also supports full cross-play between PC and consoles.

The ultimate, formidable objective is to somehow banish the Sludge God from this plane of existence – a monumental challenge given the overwhelming numbers of the infected. As Carpenter himself remarked in 2023, reflecting on the game`s chaotic and explosive fun:

“They blow up real good and there are a ton of them. People are going to love this game.”

Prepare for the mayhem: John Carpenter`s Toxic Commando is scheduled to launch in early 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
