IO Interactive has acknowledged the performance issues affecting Hitman: World of Assassination – Signature Edition, which launched as a title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
The port, intended as a showcase for the new console`s capability with demanding current-generation games, has faced criticism for its technical faults. Our early assessment noted the uncapped frame rate led to `uneven` and `wildly fluctuating` performance. Interestingly, this was less pronounced in handheld mode, benefiting from the screen`s built-in Variable Refresh Rate (VRR).
In an interview with VGC, IO`s franchise director, Jonathan Lacaille, addressed these concerns, stating, “The team is working on some of those performance issues right now, and they are addressing it over the summer.” A precise release date for these corrective updates has not yet been announced.
Lacaille also used the opportunity to reassure fans about the upcoming 007 First Light, currently being developed for Switch 2 alongside more powerful platforms.
He added, “It’s, of course, good learning for us to bring to First Light as well–so all of this will be learnings we bring to the next title.”
While previous Hitman titles appeared on the original Switch (Hitman 3 as a cloud version, Hitman: Blood Money as a port), Lacaille affirmed, “the Switch 2 is a powerful device–powerful enough for us to bring First Light to it natively.”
The Switch 2 version of Hitman: World of Assassination is not the only recent IO-published title experiencing technical trouble. The company also published MindsEye from developer Build A Rocket Boy, which has been heavily criticized, with performance issues so severe that PS5 players were reportedly issued refunds via the PlayStation Store.
