Mastering the system for dispatching units to expand your camp in Crimson Desert can be less than obvious, especially for new players. Many don’t immediately realize they can inspect areas on the map to view lists of available missions for their Greymane Freeswords. This mechanic becomes crucial during the “Bustling Hill” quest in Chapter 3, when you’ll need to expand your camp. The process is quite straightforward; here’s how to do it.
Preparing for the Howling Hill Expansion
Before dispatching a unit for the Howling Hill expansion, ensure you have the necessary resources:
- 100 Camp Food
- 250 Camp Funds
These amounts are displayed in the top-right corner of your screen when you are in your camp. This is typically a small amount of resources, but if you haven’t yet donated to Carl or completed other missions, you might be short. Simply speak to him and donate a few coins and some food items to accumulate the required amounts.
Steps to Dispatch the Expansion Mission
Once you have gathered the resources, follow these steps:
- Open the world map.
- Move your cursor to the “Howling Hill” area and double-click (or press Y on a controller) to inspect it. At this stage, you will see information about the location and available options.
- Navigate to the “Missions” tab and select “Howling Hill Camp Expansion.” A list of tasks related to this area will be displayed here.
- Choose your available Freeswords for the mission and then confirm the dispatch. You will need to assign your mercenaries to carry out the task.
The expansion will take some time. It’s recommended to use the “pass time” feature for 12 hours or engage in other activities while it completes. It’s important to remember this method of dispatching missions, as it will be useful in the future. Later, you will encounter Ross, a dispatch coordinator, who can assist with Freesword missions, but the option to dispatch them via the map will remain available even when away from camp.
Why is Dispatching Missions Important?
Dispatching missions is the primary way to obtain camp resources and funds, which, in turn, allow you to undertake other expansion projects at Howling Hill later, such as building a ranch, a farm, or further expanding as requested by the Greymane questline. Missions will also enable you to complete projects like acquiring a wagon for trade. For now, as your camp grows, simply sit back and relax while it progresses.
