Hollow Knight: Silksong Supports A PC Feature Missing From The Original

Fans of Hollow Knight who use ultrawide monitors can rejoice! On the eve of the highly anticipated release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, the marketing lead confirmed that the metroidvania will support 21:9 displays. This will allow players to enjoy its stunning 2D art in a new, expanded format.

Matthew Griffin, Silksong`s marketing and publishing lead, shared four screenshots from the PC version of the game in ultrawide format. Each image showcases a different biome from the world of Pharloom, demonstrating the enhanced visual experience. It`s worth noting that the original Hollow Knight, released in 2017, did not officially support 21:9 displays.

Implementing ultrawide screen support in a video game is a complex task, as it entails a complete change in the field of view and resolution. For a side-scrolling game like Hollow Knight: Silksong, the developers at Team Cherry had to account for the additional screen real estate provided by an ultrawide display compared to a standard 16:9 format, and adapt the game`s design accordingly to ensure a seamless experience.

Silksong is launching on all modern platforms, but since ultrawide monitor support is a PC-exclusive feature, this might be a deciding factor for players who own multiple platforms. Previously, Team Cherry also announced that owners of the first-generation Nintendo Switch would be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free, ensuring broad accessibility.

Regardless of the chosen platform, Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at a relatively low price — just $20. For added convenience, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can look forward to playing Silksong on release day at no additional cost, making it even more accessible to a wider audience.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled for release on September 4, but eager fans should not expect advance reviews on launch day. However, after such an infamously long wait for the game, you`ve probably already decided whether or not you`ll buy it. The only question left is which platform you`ll choose for your adventure.
