Team Cherry has officially announced that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available for $20, with its launch scheduled for September 4 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET. This surprisingly accessible price point, detailed by the developer over the weekend, is only $5 more than its critically acclaimed predecessor, Hollow Knight, which first released in 2017.
The immense anticipation for Silksong has already had a significant impact, boosting the original Hollow Knight to break Steam concurrent player records with over 71,000 players on September 1. The sequel`s pricing had previously been a subject of widespread speculation, as it was not disclosed during the initial release date announcement last month.
Despite years of anticipation exceeding initial expectations, Team Cherry clarified that the extended development time for Silksong was not due to any development issues. Instead, the small Australian team expressed that they simply kept adding new content and thoroughly enjoyed the creative process.
The impending arrival of Silksong has even led several other independent game developers to delay their titles, aiming to avoid being overshadowed by the highly anticipated metroidvania sequel. However, the game Fling to the Finish plans to maintain its September 4 release date on PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X|S, having already launched on PC.
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be broadly available across multiple platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. Team Cherry further confirmed via Kickstarter that a free upgrade to Switch 2 will be offered to owners of the original Switch version, and the game will also be available on Game Pass from its launch day.
