Hollow Knight: Silksong – Revisiting the Gamescom Gameplay Demo

Gamescom`s ONL presentation featured numerous announcements, alongside new looks at previously revealed titles, notably the highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Players will control Hornet, the princess-protector, as she embarks on a perilous journey through an unknown realm. At Gamescom, we had the opportunity to experience Silksong firsthand.

Repeated delays have understandably fueled fan anticipation and frustration regarding the game`s release. Despite the wait, we`ve now played it, though with a slight detail to note.

Though the audio quality wasn`t optimal, making it difficult to fully appreciate Christopher Larkin`s melancholic score, the gameplay clearly demonstrated Hornet`s movement and combat mechanics. Similar to her appearance in the original Hollow Knight, Hornet wields her reliable needle, capable of a charged attack for increased damage. The `Mother` boss encounter was straightforward, and it was a pleasure to re-immerse ourselves in the Hollow Knight universe.

However, this particular gameplay segment might seem familiar, as it was previously showcased and playable at E3 in 2019. Perhaps Team Cherry chose not to reveal too much new content, opting for a polished, accessible level suitable for both returning Hollow Knight fans and newcomers who missed the earlier demo.

A dedicated presentation for the game is scheduled for Thursday, potentially unveiling an official release date and further plot details. Team Cherry has indicated a 2025 release window for the game.
