Hollow Knight Silksong Reviews Probably Aren’t Going To Be Ready For Launch

After a considerable wait, new gameplay footage and a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong have finally been unveiled. With its launch just two weeks away, it appears official reviews from critics may not be available immediately.

According to a post by Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier on his Bluesky account, developer Team Cherry has made the decision not to distribute early preview codes to media outlets before the game`s release. This choice is partly driven by their desire to ensure that reviewers do not get to play the game before the dedicated fans who backed the original Hollow Knight on Kickstarter, as well as other players.

“In case you`re wondering: Team Cherry told me they don`t plan on sending out early codes for Silksong (they felt like it`d be unfair for critics to be playing before Kickstarter backers and other players), so don`t expect to see reviews until after the game comes out,” Schreier wrote.

Schreier further speculated that given Team Cherry`s relatively small size, managing a widespread distribution of review codes could also pose a significant logistical challenge.

Originally conceived as downloadable content (DLC), Silksong quickly evolved into a full-fledged, standalone sequel. In this new installment, players will step into the shoes of Hornet, a formidable and agile warrior who played a crucial role in the narrative of the first game. Silksong promises an expansive adventure with over 150 new enemies, a fresh array of combat tools, engaging crafting mechanics, and an even faster, more acrobatic style of combat.

While you won`t be able to read any official reviews prior to its release, you can still seek out hands-on previews from various gaming events, such as the one from Gamescom.

The highly anticipated game is slated for release on September 4, and it will be available across all major gaming platforms, including its day-one inclusion in Game Pass.
