After many years of development and fears that the game might never see the light of day, the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally received its release date: September 4. Developer Team Cherry has published the exact launch times, allowing fans who have waited for years to dive into the game immediately upon its unlock.
This highly anticipated metroidvania title will launch on September 4 at 7 AM PT. Global unlock times are provided below.

As previously announced, Silksong will be available on all platforms for $20 at launch. A free upgrade to the Switch 2 version will be provided for owners of the original Switch.
What is Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the highly anticipated sequel to Team Cherry`s 2017 hit, Hollow Knight, which sold over 15 million copies and received critical acclaim. Originally conceived as a DLC, Silksong expanded into a full-fledged standalone game. Players will embody Hornet in a 2D platforming world, encountering new enemy types and bosses. The Greymoor area is noted as one of the largest Team Cherry has ever created.
Why Did Hollow Knight: Silksong Take So Long to Come Out?
Team Cherry founders, Ari Gibson and William Pellen, clarified that Silksong was not stuck in “development hell.” The phenomenal success of the first game in 2017 allowed the Australia-based developers to take their time with the sequel. Gibson noted, “It was never stuck or anything. Development was always progressing. It’s just the case that we’re a small team, and games take a lot of time. There wasn`t any big controversial moment behind it.”
Pellen added that instead of constantly bothering fans with updates, their primary responsibility was to focus on working on the game. Originally, Silksong was scheduled to launch before June 2023, and Pellen admitted the team genuinely believed in that timeline, but, evidently, it didn`t happen.
The wait could have been even longer. Gibson explained that Team Cherry`s development structure allows for quick results, with ideas almost instantly transforming into game elements. This was an enjoyable process, but it also presented challenges. “I remember at some point I just had to stop sketching,” Gibson said. “Because I realized: `Everything I’m drawing here has to end up in the game. That’s a cool idea – include it. And that’s a cool idea – include that too.` And you realize, `If I don`t stop drawing, this is going to take 15 years to finish.`”
Is Hollow Knight: Silksong on Game Pass?
Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available at launch for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers. Alternatively, as mentioned, it can be purchased outright for $20.
