While the Guitar Hero series is not yet making a comeback, some key developers behind its creation have reunited to form a new, yet familiar studio named RedOctane Games. Today, RedOctane Games, bearing the name of the original publisher of the Guitar Hero series, is re-emerging. Its sole focus will be on the development of rhythm games, led by Simon Ebejer, who previously served as a production designer on titles like Guitar Hero 3 and World Tour, and was formerly studio head at Vicarious Visions (now Blizzard Albany).
According to a press release, RedOctane Games employs numerous “creators and developers who helped shape and grow Guitar Hero and DJ Hero,” along with “proven emerging talents and community leaders from today`s rhythm gaming landscape.” Charles and Kai Huang, the founders of the original RedOctane Games, are also involved in this new iteration as members of a special advisory board.
“Rhythm games are more than just gameplay; they are about feel, flow, and connection to the music and to each other,” stated Ebejer. “RedOctane Games is our way of giving back to a genre that means so much to us, while simultaneously advancing it in new and exciting directions.”
Currently, RedOctane Games is not yet ready to announce its first game, but it has apparently already begun its production. The announcement is anticipated to take place sometime this year.
