Grab Your Lego Optimus Prime at Target Before It’s Gone!

The Lego Optimus Prime is widely regarded as one of the most popular and highly-rated buildable models in the Lego Icons collection, and for good reason. This 1,508-piece collectible display set features an exceptionally clever 2-in-1 design, allowing Transformers enthusiasts to convert the Autobot leader into his iconic truck form. Major retailers recently replenished their stock of this set with a 20% discount, bringing the price down to $144 from its original $180. While Amazon and Walmart have already sold out of this special offer, Target has restocked the discounted set.

It`s an excellent time to expand your Lego collection with Optimus Prime, as the Transformers series is soon to welcome its third member: Soundwave. This Decepticon will join the Lego Icons: Transformers lineup on August 4th, but Lego Insiders can acquire the 1,505-piece display model for $190 starting this Friday, August 1st.

Returning to the Autobot leader: all three major retailers have sold out of the Lego Optimus Prime set multiple times this year. Although it has reappeared, it`s worth noting that Optimus Prime was out of stock everywhere from the last holiday season until March. The official Lego Store currently has units available, but at the full MSRP of $180.

Optimus Prime is a highly detailed model showcasing the Autobot leader`s G1-era design. With 19 points of articulation, you can achieve a wide range of poses by adjusting his limbs in robot mode. Lego`s meticulously scaled model of the G1-era Optimus Prime is essentially a 13.5-inch action figure. While it shouldn`t be handled roughly, its 2-in-1 design incorporates more movable components than typically found in Lego sets.

Converting from robot to truck mode and back again is a relatively straightforward process. Initially, the transformation might take a couple of minutes, but once you`ve memorized the steps, it`s possible to convert the build in under a minute.

Beyond its complete transformation capability, Optimus features a suite of interactive elements and accessories, making it one of the most dynamic builds in Lego`s adult collector lineup. Brick-built replicas of the ion blaster and Energon axe can be attached to his hands. You can easily attach or remove his jetpack and swap between two different waist panels. The dual windows covering his chest can be swung open to access the Matrix of Leadership artifact. It also includes an Energon cube and an information plaque for display alongside the model.

Lego produces many vehicle display models, so it`s quite remarkable that Optimus Prime`s “secondary” truck mode looks good enough to be mistaken for a vehicle that doesn`t transform into a robot. When displayed as a truck, Optimus measures 10.5 x 4.5 x 5.5 inches.

Like many other Lego sets aimed at adults and collectors, Optimus Prime involves a more intricate building process than the average set. An abundant variety of conventional bricks and unique piece types makes it an incredibly rewarding set to construct. Depending on your experience with Lego sets of this size, it could take anywhere from three to six hours to complete.

Discounts are also available on other iconic vehicles from cinematic history. The Lego Icons Back to the Future Time Machine is currently on sale for $170 (originally $200) at Walmart. This is a 3-in-1 build, but unlike the Transformers sets, you`ll need to choose which DeLorean model from the trilogy you wish to construct. If you change your mind later, you can partially disassemble the model and rebuild it using instructions for one of the other designs. It can also be found at Target for $171.

Meanwhile, Dune fans can save 20% on the Lego Icons: Atreides Royal Ornithopter, reducing the price from $165 to $132. This 1,369-piece build includes six Lego minifigures. The item is available at Walmart and Target.
