MiHoYo, the developer behind the popular game Genshin Impact, has announced the gradual discontinuation of support for the game on PlayStation 4. This process will culminate in a complete shutdown for the platform by 2026. The primary reason cited for this decision is the “limitations related to hardware performance.” MiHoYo also indicated that mobile versions of the game will require increased processing power for both iOS and Android devices.
Effective September 10, the PlayStation 4 version of Genshin Impact will be removed from the PlayStation Network. However, players who have previously downloaded the game will retain the ability to re-download it.
In-game purchases for the PS4 edition will cease on February 25, 2026, and all update support for Genshin Impact on the console will officially conclude on April 8, 2026. Following this final date, players will no longer be able to log into the game on their PS4 consoles. MiHoYo plans to begin notifying players about these upcoming changes later this year.

While the discontinuation of the PS4 version might lead to a loss in a segment of its player base, it`s notable that the number of monthly active users on PS5 recently surpassed those on PS4. As of March 31, both PlayStation consoles collectively accounted for 124 million users, with a reported increase in spending on peripherals, services, and content across PlayStation platforms.
Genshin Impact remains accessible on PC and Xbox Series X|S. MiHoYo also develops other live-service titles, including Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.
