Frostpunk 2 is slated for a console release on September 18, 2024, and will be immediately accessible to console subscribers via Xbox Game Pass on its launch day. Developer 11 bit studios has also announced two distinct physical editions for the highly anticipated survival strategy game.
Physical Editions & Game Pass Availability
While Frostpunk 2 launched on PC in July 2024, its console counterpart will join the Game Pass library upon its global release. For fans interested in physical collectibles, two versions will be available:
- Icebreaker Edition: This edition includes the base game, a digital novella, a digital artbook, and a unique pop-up diorama of New London.
- Whiteout Edition: A premium package that features all content from the Icebreaker Edition. Additionally, it grants access to three of Frostpunk 2`s upcoming DLC releases, along with extra physical merchandise such as a keychain, New London postcards, stickers, and a faction patch.
Optimized Console Experience
Igor Skibinski, production coordinator at 11 bit studios, highlighted the team`s dedication to crafting a fluid and intuitive experience for console players. “Our ambition is to once again prove that even complex strategy games can feel intuitive and satisfying on consoles,” Skibinski stated. Following the console release, a subsequent update for the PC version will integrate the console`s optimized user interface, enhancing controller support for PC players.
The Enduring Winter: Frostpunk`s Premise
Upon its console debut, Frostpunk 2 will join the original Frostpunk, which is also available on console Game Pass. This acclaimed city-building franchise immerses players in a perpetual winter, forcing them to make difficult, often morally ambiguous, choices to ensure humanity`s survival. Players must meticulously manage essential resources like food and heat, all while navigating the complexities of social upheaval and maintaining order within their fragile community.

Expanding the Frostpunk Universe: Frostpunk 1886 & Future Content
Earlier this year, 11 bit studios unveiled plans for a remake of the original Frostpunk, titled Frostpunk 1886. This new version, powered by Unreal Engine 5, is more than just a visual overhaul; it will introduce new content, refined mechanics, additional laws, and crucially, official mod support – a feature previously unfeasible due to the limitations of the original game`s engine.
The studio has confirmed its commitment to ongoing support for both titles, with development on Frostpunk 2 and Frostpunk 1886 progressing simultaneously. The official Frostpunk 2 roadmap details multiple significant free content updates and paid DLCs, with some arriving in 2025 and more content planned through 2026.
