Fortnite’s Surprising Movie Crossover: One Battle After Another

Fortnite, renowned for its diverse crossovers including collaborations with Superman and Fantastic Four, is reportedly preparing for an unexpected partnership with the upcoming film “One Battle After Another.” This thriller, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson and featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, is slated for a September 26 theatrical release, making its tie-in with Fortnite particularly surprising given its genre.

The film`s official Instagram account released a brief teaser video, showcasing Fortnite`s protagonist, Jonesy, re-enacting a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio`s character answers a clandestine call at a phone booth. The video`s caption read: “There are no hands on the clock. #OneBattleAfterAnother x Fortnite coming soon.”

The precise nature of this collaboration remains uncertain. It is unclear whether it will introduce character skins based on the movie`s cast, new in-game missions provided by non-player characters on the battle royale map, or perhaps a unique Fortnite Creative experience designed to promote the film. Visualizing such a partnership`s in-game appearance is challenging.

“One Battle After Another” follows DiCaprio`s character, an ex-revolutionary, as he reunites with former activists after a long-dormant enemy resurfaces. The film also features Sean Penn as the antagonist, alongside Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, and Teyana Taylor in supporting roles.

The prospect of playing as Leonardo DiCaprio or Sean Penn within Fortnite is quite humorous. This collaboration opens up amusing possibilities, prompting one to imagine other iconic characters from Anderson`s extensive filmography—such as Barry Egan from “Punch-Drunk Love” or Dirk Diggler from “Boogie Nights”—wielding a pickaxe and running alongside Fortnite`s eccentric cast of humanoid fish and sentient bananas.

Meanwhile, Epic Games, the studio behind Fortnite, continues its efforts to make the game playable on iOS devices in the UK. This initiative follows an extensive legal battle that resulted in Fortnite`s return to the US iOS App Store and the Epic Games Store within the EU iOS App Store.
