Epic Games has recently discontinued the passive experience point (XP) accumulation feature in Fortnite`s primary Battle Royale and Zero Build modes. This significant change took effect on a Thursday afternoon, coinciding with the ongoing Summer Road Trip event. This event challenges players to earn XP through daily quests, with a free Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 vehicle body as a desirable reward. Previously, players could earn approximately 550 XP per minute in Battle Royale simply by remaining active in the game mode, an amount that would contribute nearly half a level per hour. However, this passive XP stream is no longer available.
While this alteration undeniably represents a reduction in potential XP earnings, it`s important to recognize that passive XP gain was not a long-standing feature in these modes. In fact, it was only introduced at the beginning of the current season. Its brief presence had made leveling up the battle pass considerably faster for players.
Assuming this change will be permanent for the foreseeable future, two primary reasons for its implementation become apparent. Firstly, the ongoing Summer Road Trip event requires players to gain XP to complete its quests. Although only eight total levels are needed across these challenges, the removal of passive XP in Battle Royale is unlikely to significantly impede players` progress towards these event goals. Secondly, with Chapter 6 Season 4 rapidly approaching its conclusion on August 7, this adjustment could serve to make it slightly more challenging for individuals who are just beginning their battle pass progression to catch up before the season officially ends.
The conclusion of Chapter 6 Season 3 on August 7 will also simultaneously mark the end of the current seasons for both Fortnite OG and Lego Fortnite. This convergence of endings strongly suggests that the upcoming season launch will be particularly eventful and noteworthy, potentially featuring a climactic end-of-season event to tie everything together.
