Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Coming to Switch 2, Hints at Three Houses Link

Nintendo`s enduring fantasy RPG series, Fire Emblem, is set to release its next installment, Fire Emblem: Fortune`s Weave, on the Switch 2 in 2026. The game`s announcement trailer showcases a setting reminiscent of ancient Rome and its grand coliseums. Players will meet diverse characters, each with unique motivations for entering the arena`s combat. Among them is Cai, a new blue-haired protagonist fighting to save his father, and Theodora, who seeks to strengthen herself for the benefit of her community.

Fortune`s Weave appears to continue the narrative established by 2019`s critically acclaimed Fire Emblem: Three Houses. A notable moment in the trailer features an older, familiar character, the enigmatic Sothis, reflecting on the passage of time and the possibility of being forgotten. Furthermore, the presence of bone-like `Heroes` Relics` weapons strongly links this new title to Three Houses.

For many years, Fire Emblem remained a niche series until its breakthrough success with Fire Emblem: Awakening on the Nintendo 3DS in 2012, followed by Fire Emblem: Fates in 2015. The Nintendo Switch era saw the franchise reach new heights with the highly praised Fire Emblem: Three Houses in 2019, and then Fire Emblem: Engage in 2023. Although Engage didn`t achieve the same critical acclaim as Three Houses, it was still well-received for its refined gameplay and adaptable tactical combat.

The reveal of Fire Emblem: Fortune`s Weave concluded the recent Nintendo Direct event. This presentation also marked Mario`s 40th anniversary, featuring announcements such as remasters for Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 and a confirmed release date for Metroid Prime 4, alongside other exciting news.
