Final Fantasy 14`s developer, Square Enix, has announced the discontinuation of game support for the Windows 10 operating system, effective October 14th. This decision aligns with Microsoft`s plan to end support for its widely used OS. Despite this, Square Enix emphasizes that players will “likely” still be able to enjoy FF14 even after the specified date.
In an official statement, Square Enix noted, “We have found that continuing support for this operating system is a difficult proposition.” The company further added, “You will likely be able to play Final Fantasy 14 on Windows 10 systems even after official support concludes. However, as a general rule, following the cessation of our support, we will no longer be able to provide assistance for issues arising specifically from the operating system.”
The publisher clarified that technical support requests might still be considered on a case-by-case basis. Final Fantasy 14 initially launched for PC (and PS3) in 2013, a period when Microsoft`s Windows 8 operating system was relatively new. Given its extended lifespan, the game has received numerous updates for various Windows versions since its debut, with the recent Dawntrail expansion introducing a significant graphical overhaul.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest MMORPGs ever, the game was ported to Xbox Series X|S last year. The positive reception to this port has prompted Square Enix to embrace a multiplatform release strategy as part of a comprehensive three-year company-wide reboot.
Meanwhile, Square Enix`s other Final Fantasy MMORPG continues to thrive. Final Fantasy 11 maintains a substantial player base and regularly receives new updates throughout the year.
