With two successful installments already launched, the grand finale of the Final Fantasy Remake Trilogy is steadily approaching. Last year witnessed the release of the saga`s middle chapter, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, across consoles and PC. According to producer Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix has precisely determined when the official announcement for the third part will take place. However, he cautions against expecting a reveal date for this announcement anytime soon.
“Everything is proceeding very smoothly,” Nomura shared during a recent Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis livestream (as translated by Genki JPN). “The announcement timing has been decided, and we will adhere to that schedule, so please be assured and wait.”
Nomura also provided an update on Kingdom Hearts 4, noting that its development is “progressing well and according to schedule,” though he offered no further details on the long-awaited title. As for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3, it remains uncertain whether Square Enix will unveil the game through its own channels or via a partner event. To recall, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was first revealed during the 2015 PlayStation Showcase at E3 2015, while Final Fantasy: Rebirth made its debut at Summer Game Fest 2023.
While specific details about the third game are currently under wraps, series producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed back in January that the story scenario was completed by the end of 2024, expressing his “very satisfied” with the outcome. Game director Naoki Hamaguchi further corroborated that development on the third installment commenced immediately after Rebirth`s completion.
Beyond the significant narrative changes and plot twists introduced in Rebirth to the established lore of Final Fantasy 7, another substantial shift on the horizon could be a multiplatform release for the upcoming game. Previous Final Fantasy 7 remake titles were PlayStation exclusives for a limited period on PS4 and PS5. However, Square Enix`s new strategy, focusing on multiplatform releases to ensure long-term growth, might lead to the game launching simultaneously on PC and Xbox Series X|S, thereby reaching a considerably wider audience.
