Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy Expands to Switch 2 and Xbox

It has long been known that Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are coming to Switch 2. During a recent Nintendo Direct livestream, the official release date for the first of these games was announced: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will launch on January 22, 2026, for Switch 2. Following the Direct, it was revealed that the game will also be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC on the same day. Furthermore, the complete FF7 Remake trilogy will be released for both Switch 2 and Xbox.

It has been confirmed that Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade will be available in both physical and digital formats. However, it is currently unclear whether the physical edition will be a game key card or a full cartridge with the entire game. The Intergrade version includes both the base Remake game and the Episode Intermission DLC. On Xbox, the game will support Play Anywhere functionality.

The eShop already lists the digital version of Remake Intergrade for $40 as a “limited early purchase edition.” This edition includes a bonus port of the original Final Fantasy 7. The first batches of physical editions will come with a free booster pack for Magic: The Gathering – Final Fantasy.

Both parts of the Final Fantasy 7 remake were initially released exclusively for PlayStation consoles. However, times are changing, and Square Enix is transitioning to multiplatform releases, aiming to ensure the long-term growth of the franchise.

The final part of the trilogy is also in development, and according to producer Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix knows exactly when the game will be officially revealed.

Beyond these major Final Fantasy titles, several other notable JRPGs are set to arrive on Switch this year and next. These include:

  • Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (September 30)
  • Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake (October 30)
  • Octopath Traveler 0 (December 4)
