Elden Ring continues its phenomenal success for developers FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco. Recent announcements confirm the expansion, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, has shipped over 10 million units, while a distinct version, Elden Ring Nightreign, has also surpassed 5 million units shipped. The base game itself has achieved remarkable sales, exceeding 30 million copies globally and ranking as the second best-selling game in the US for 2022, only behind Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
The Elden Ring universe is set for further growth. A new Tarnished Edition is slated for release this year on the Nintendo Switch 2, offering a bundle of the base game and the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. Additionally, a live-action film adaptation is in the works, with A24 producing and Alex Garland directing, promising an expansion of the lore beyond gaming.
In related news, Sony recently acquired a 2.5% ownership stake in Bandai Namco, purchasing 16 million shares.
Looking ahead, FromSoftware, the studio behind Elden Ring, is developing “Duskbloods,” an action-RPG scheduled for a 2026 release on the Switch 2. There`s also speculation of a second title from the Japanese studio launching in the same year. While the immense popularity of Elden Ring suggests a sequel is highly probable, no official confirmation has been made yet.
