Ed Boon Unveils First Glimpse of Kitana in Mortal Kombat 2 Film

Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, recently unveiled the first official glimpse of Kitana from the upcoming Mortal Kombat 2 movie. Shared via X (formerly Twitter), the image reveals the Princess of Edenia’s distinctive fan, held firmly in her grasp.

Boon`s reveal came with a playful anecdote. He tweeted that after attending an early, unfinished screening of the film, he `borrowed` producer Todd Garner`s phone to `leak` the image himself, humorously stating, “I can leak stuff too.” Garner quickly responded, playfully chiding Boon for beating him to the punch.

The same image was briefly showcased to attendees at a San Diego Comic-Con panel last week. Its fleeting appearance was likely intended to prevent premature public release, adding to the anticipation among fans.

Mortal Kombat 2 is set to expand upon the narrative established in the 2021 film, continuing the journey of protagonist Cole Young. Adeline Rudolph has been cast as Kitana, and the film will introduce other fan-favorite characters, such as Quan Chi, portrayed by Damon Herriman. Simon McQuoid, who helmed the initial movie, is back in the director`s chair for the sequel.

The ensemble cast includes notable additions like Karl Urban from `The Boys` as Johnny Cage, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, and Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel. Damon Herriman also joins as Quan Chi. Many original cast members from the 2021 film, including Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Tadanobu Asano, and Mehcad Brooks, are reprising their roles, promising continuity for fans.

In related news from San Diego Comic-Con, NetherRealm Studios, developers of the `Mortal Kombat 1` game, announced their upcoming DLC characters. The `Khaos Reigns` expansion will introduce six new fighters: three from the Mortal Kombat universe and three guest characters from classic 1980s and 90s films, including Ghost Face.

The highly anticipated film is slated for release on October 24, 2025, with screenings planned for IMAX theaters.
