EA CEO Reacts To Rematch’s Big Launch And Avoiding Arrogance With Its FC Series

This year, Sloclap`s new soccer game, Rematch, entered the market, and EA CEO Andrew Wilson expressed a welcoming stance towards this new competition. During EA`s latest earnings call, when questioned about potential competitive pressure on their FC series, Wilson stated, “We love competition.”

While Rematch and EA`s FC series are not direct competitors due to the immense size and scope of EA`s franchise, Rematch has nonetheless emerged as a new contender in the soccer game arena, drawing EA`s attention.

As reported by GamesRadar, Wilson emphasized EA`s consistent drive to compete, a principle that has guided all their games, especially sports titles, for over 30 or 40 years. He believes that “competition makes us better.” Wilson added that EA constantly observes its rivals, assesses new player demands, and strives to incorporate these insights into its own game offerings.

Rematch is an arcade-style soccer game that does not include real-life players or official leagues. Wilson highlighted that the extensive licensing agreements held by EA`s FC series are a key factor distinguishing their franchise.

Despite their strong market position, Wilson affirmed that EA would not “rest on our laurels.” Instead, they will continue to seek innovative methods to attract and retain fans. He elaborated, “We never sit back with arrogance and pretend we don’t have to be thoughtful about what’s going on in the marketplace and what new players might want out of the next football experience that they want to play.”

Rematch was released in June for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, achieving a milestone of 5 million players within its first month. The next installment in the EA Sports FC series is set to launch in September.
