About Dragon Quest VII Reimagined
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined represents a complete remake of the original PlayStation 1 title, first released in 2000. While this marks the second remake for the expansive console JRPG (following its Nintendo 3DS rendition in 2016), the `Reimagined` version appears to be an even more substantial overhaul. It showcases a stunning new art style, evoking the look of sculpted figurines and reminiscent of the PS1 version`s full-motion video cutscenes. The game also retains the classic top-down perspective from the original. From initial glimpses, this refreshed visual approach perfectly complements the timeless character and monster designs by the late Akira Toriyama.
Both the announcement trailer and the game`s official website indicate significant alterations to Dragon Quest VII Reimagined`s story and gameplay. Although specific narrative changes remain undisclosed, Square Enix has stated that the storyline has been `reworked to be pacier and more accessible to players.` This is a welcome change, given that the original PS1 and 3DS versions were known for their immense scope, often requiring over 100 hours to complete just the main narrative.
In terms of gameplay, Reimagined preserves the original`s turn-based combat system, offering options to accelerate battle speed or enable auto-battling. Similar to the 3DS iteration, players will encounter monsters directly on the field, and low-level adversaries can be automatically defeated without initiating combat. Furthermore, the game will introduce an updated class system, allowing party members to choose two classes simultaneously, alongside various adjustments and improvements to each vocation.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is just one of several upcoming remakes in the beloved series. The Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake is also set to release on October 30 for PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, Switch, and PC. Priced at $60 across all platforms, this title offers enhanced versions of the first two Dragon Quest games from the 1980s, featuring brand-new graphics, gameplay updates, and additional content. This HD-2D rendition follows the successful Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which launched last year on all consoles and recently received a performance-boosting Switch 2 Edition upgrade. While fans eagerly await more news on the long-anticipated Dragon Quest 12, these remakes of classic entries are sure to keep them engaged in the interim.
