Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined – A Grand Return to Estard

Following extensive rumors, Square Enix officially revealed during Friday`s Nintendo Direct that a full remake of Dragon Quest VII, titled *Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined*, is coming to Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Scheduled for release on February 5, 2026, the remake is available for preorder now on the Nintendo eShop.

*Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined* is a comprehensive remake of the original PlayStation title from 2000, featuring significantly enhanced visuals reminiscent of *Dragon Quest XI*. The game immerses players in the journey of a young protagonist from the peaceful island of Estard. Alongside companions Kiefer and Maribel, he uncovers ancient ruins that grant the power to travel to lost continents. Players must traverse these forgotten lands across different timelines, rectifying past catastrophes to restore the continents and gradually reconstruct the world in the present.

Notably, a decade ago, during the 2015 Nintendo Direct, *Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past* was announced for the Nintendo 3DS outside of Japan. However, that version was an abridged remake, with significant content, including the original intro, removed to shorten the gameplay experience.

In related news, Square Enix continues to advance its other major seventh installment, the *Final Fantasy VII Remake* series. The storyline for the third and concluding part was finalized in early 2025, a significant step in the trilogy`s development. Furthermore, Square Enix confirmed in May that the entire *Final Fantasy VII Remake* saga, including *Final Fantasy VII Rebirth* (released 2024) and *Remake Intergrade*, will be available on the Nintendo Switch 2. While the final part`s release date remains unannounced, its development is progressing towards a highly anticipated conclusion.

While awaiting *Dragon Quest VII: Reimagined*, fans can delve into other recent series entries. The *Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake* was released last year, and Square Enix is also launching the *Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake* on October 30.
