Hollow Knight: Silksong, frequently hailed as the `GTA 6 of indie games,` represents a monumental release that many developers would ideally prefer to sidestep. However, altering release dates isn`t always feasible for publishers. This article shines a light on other compelling games launching today, offering excellent alternatives if Silksong isn`t quite your style, or if you`re simply in search of something different. We`ll also highlight several eagerly awaited titles that strategically adjusted their release schedules to steer clear of Hornet and her highly anticipated adventure.
Games Releasing September 4, 2025
Adventure of Samsara – This search-action title, colloquially known as a Metroidvania, bears a striking resemblance to Hollow Knight, featuring a diminutive protagonist wielding a sword. It`s noted for its impressive pixel art aesthetics.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle `The Order of the Giants` DLC – An expansion that deepens the lore of `The Order of Giants,` a mysterious faction previously alluded to in the core game.

Hell is Us – Set in a world ravaged by conflict and an enigmatic calamity, players embark on a quest to uncover truths about their own past. This is a third-person action game incorporating elements reminiscent of Souls-like titles.
NBA 2K26 – It`s highly improbable that 2K Games and their latest NBA iteration would express concern about Silksong impacting their sales figures. The overlap in target audience between a basketball simulation and games like Adventure of Samsara or the Souls-inspired Hell is Us is minimal.

Jetrunner – This stylish first-person parkour game boasts flashy, cel-shaded visuals and promises exhilarating, fast-paced gameplay.
Further titles launching today include the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Star Wars: Outlaws, Everybody`s Golf Hot Shots, and the Apple Arcade exclusive NFL Retro Bowl `26.
Conversely, several other games chose to postpone their launches once September 4 was firmly established as Silksong`s release date. The sci-fi roguelite FPS, Moros Protocol, shifted its release to September 18, a date also adopted by the PlayStation 1-aesthetic roguelike survival game, Megabonk. Baby Steps, the spiritual successor to Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, carefully moved its launch to September 23. Demonschool was initially slated for September 23, but its developer, Ysbryd, clarified the delay by stating, “Our paramount objective is to secure maximum visibility for Demonschool. Consequently, the Ysbryd team firmly believes it would be counterproductive to our game`s success to enter what we clearly perceive as an intensely competitive and `blood-red` release window.”
As for Hollow Knight: Silksong itself, it has debuted to overwhelmingly positive critical and player reception. Its launch nearly instantaneously led to server overloads for Steam and the Nintendo eShop, and also impacted Game Pass services. On Steam, Hollow Knight: Silksong achieved a peak of 535,000 concurrent players, securing its place among the top three titles alongside Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2.
