Digital Foundry Evaluates Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro: First Impressions and Performance Analysis

Crimson Desert на PS5 Pro

After some anticipation, a video showcasing Crimson Desert gameplay on the PS5 Pro has finally emerged.

Previously, Pearl Abyss stated its intent to harness the capabilities of Sony’s most powerful console and leverage its enhanced PSSR upscaling technology. Consequently, Digital Foundry specialists, gaining access to a console build, conducted their testing on the PS5 Pro.

The version tested, though not final, is quite close to release. Experts identified some visual imperfections, including glitches and denoising issues in high-contrast scenes. However, they noted that these problems were less severe compared to Resident Evil Requiem. This build also utilized the first generation of PSSR.

Nevertheless, the impressive visual quality of Crimson Desert on PS5 Pro is largely attributed to its ray tracing implementation, available across all three graphics modes. The collaboration between Pearl Abyss and Sony has enabled high detail and fluidity.

The “Quality” mode (30 frames per second) and “Balanced” mode (40 frames per second) offer reasonably stable frame rates. Performance exceeding 60 FPS is primarily achieved on displays supporting VRR, a feature already integrated into the game.

According to Digital Foundry analysts, achieving a stable 60 FPS even on the PS5 Pro remains challenging due to CPU limitations. Despite this, they highly praised Pearl Abyss’s work on their proprietary engine and expressed optimism for further enhancements with the advent of PSSR 2.0.
