Blizzard`s iconic dark fantasy ARPG series, Diablo, is making its way to the tabletop, promising an immediate dive into epic demon-slaying action. Players will begin their adventure as fully-equipped heroes, ready to confront the hordes of hell from “session zero.”

A Kickstarter campaign page for “Diablo: The Roleplaying Game” has recently appeared, detailing what fans can anticipate from this TTRPG adaptation. While the official launch is scheduled for this fall, the initial reveal highlights a game developed by Glass Cannon, known for successfully adapting video games like Apex Legends into board game formats.

The adaptation aims to capture the core essence of the Diablo video games. Players will be able to choose from familiar classes such as Barbarian, Druid, Necromancer, Rogue, and Sorcerer—the same classes available at Diablo 4`s launch. Crucially, the developers are focusing on translating Diablo`s signature fast-paced, frenetic ARPG combat into a dynamic tabletop experience.

Unlike many TTRPGs where characters start as vulnerable, low-level adventurers, “Diablo: The Roleplaying Game” ensures players begin “fully equipped as a seasoned hero.” This approach allows for an “epic-level dream” right from the outset. Battles will challenge players to cleave through “endless mobs” in fast-paced, tactical encounters where strategic synergies, character stats, and narrative choices are key. An innovative “push-your-luck” mechanic, inspired by the Diablo universe`s eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell, will also be incorporated.

The game will feature a comprehensive 300-page core rulebook, encompassing all necessary game rules, rich lore, and stunning artwork. To accompany this, a collection of one-shot adventures will be available, penned by celebrated writers including Graham McNeill, known for his work in the Warhammer universe, and MJ Newman of Arkham Horror fame. The ruleset itself will be built around a custom d6 dice-pool system, and the game will also boast detailed miniatures, glimpses of which can be seen on the Kickstarter page.

Regarding its place in the Diablo timeline, the TTRPG appears to be set around the era of Diablo 4, with promotional materials featuring Lilith and taglines like “be beautiful in sin.” However, the Kickstarter page assures players they will have the opportunity to “explore Sanctuary`s diverse lands and history spanning the entire franchise,” offering a broad scope for adventures.

While these are the primary details known so far, interested fans can sign up to receive notifications about the Kickstarter campaign`s upcoming launch for further updates.
