Surgent Studios, the acclaimed developer behind “Tales of Kenzera: Zau,” recently unveiled their latest creation, “Dead Take,” a game set for an surprisingly swift launch.
A newly released trailer confirms that this gripping first-person psychological horror title, starring Ben Starr and Neil Newbon, and published by Pocketpair Publishing (known for “Palworld”), is scheduled to debut on PC on July 31. The trailer also revealed an impressive roster of additional cast members, including BAFTA winner Jane Perry (from “Returnal,” “Hitman”) and Alannah Pearce (known for “Cyberpunk 2077,” “V/H/S/Beyond”).
Further adding to the game`s allure are notable cameo appearances by BAFTA winner Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part 2), Matthew Mercer (Critical Role), Travis Willingham (Marvel Rivals), and CDawgVA (Honkai: Star Rail). In a particularly intriguing role, game developer Sam Lake, famously recognized as the face of the original Max Payne, will also feature in the game.
Players will step into the shoes of Chase Lowry, portrayed by Neil Newbon, as he explores a secluded Hollywood mansion. His primary objective is to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of his close friend, Vinny Monroe, played by Ben Starr. As the investigation progresses through the mansion, players will discover various audition tapes presented as live-action footage, underscoring the game`s emphasis on immersive screen performances from its cast.
In a press release, Creative Director Abubakar Salim eloquently explained the core essence of the game: “Dead Take is about actors. So we needed actors who’ve lived it. It’s a game about the high of ambition and the rot underneath it. The lies we tell ourselves to get in the spotlight, and the monsters we become to stay there. Everyone in this cast has felt that pressure. This was a chance to bleed it out.”
