Dedicated fans have successfully breathed new life into FromSoftware’s acclaimed title, Dark Souls II.

For years, modders have tirelessly worked to enhance Dark Souls II’s visual fidelity. While earlier efforts like the ‘Flames of Old’ mod focused on restoring original visual elements, the groundbreaking ‘Dark Souls II Lighting Engine’ mod takes these improvements a significant step further. This modification introduces advanced features such as volumetric fog, substantially improved global illumination, and a host of other graphical enhancements that transform the game’s atmosphere.

The latest experimental updates for the mod even incorporate cutting-edge path tracing support. While this feature is currently in its testing phase and not yet publicly released, it’s already showcasing truly impressive results. An X user known as Musashi recently shared stunning 4K resolution screenshots, captured with DLSS enabled and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card, demonstrating the game running flawlessly at a consistent 60 frames per second.
