Crimson Desert’s “Game of the Year” Odds Plunge to 5% After Launch

The recent release of Pearl Abyss’s new title, Crimson Desert, has garnered a mixed reception from both the gaming community and investors.

Following its launch, the game has received “mixed” reviews from journalists and players alike, sparking considerable discussion across the industry.

Jason Schreier, a prominent journalist from Bloomberg, drew attention to a significant shift in the world of betting markets. He observed that after Crimson Desert’s release, its chances of winning the prestigious “Game of the Year” award dramatically decreased:

At the start of this month, betting websites rated Crimson Desert’s ‘Game of the Year’ odds at 30%, placing it second only to Grand Theft Auto VI, which stood at 45%. That figure has now plummeted to 5%.

Schreier further elaborated on the factors contributing to this sharp decline:

Over the past few months, Crimson Desert was heavily hyped on platforms such as YouTube and TikTok, where video creators enthusiastically dubbed it ‘The Second Coming,’ fostering an intense level of excitement around a game that could never truly live up to such lofty expectations. This phenomenon has occurred with games before, but now it’s 2026, and you can actually place bets on these outcomes.

This situation highlights how inflated pre-release anticipation, particularly when fueled by aggressive online hype, can lead to unrealistic expectations and subsequent market adjustments once a game is finally available to the public.
