Initially, the indie title Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 was presented as a follow-up to a non-existent series. However, Strange Scaffold has now partnered with newcomer Pedalboard Games to develop Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 1: ReRaptored. This new game, slated for a September release, is uniquely framed as a remastered version of the franchise`s inaugural entry, despite that entry never having existed until this point.
Players in Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 1: ReRaptored will step into the shoes of Jack Briar, an ATF agent dispatched to the Louisiana bayou to investigate unusual dinosaur occurrences. While featuring a new protagonist, the game closely resembles the original CRDM3, which was released in April. The predecessor was a narrative-driven match-3 Metroidvania, where progression involved exploring story branches and engaging in match-3 combat. ReRaptored maintains a similar structure, with Jack Briar acquiring new traits through exploration to unlock pathways. Given CRDM3`s satirical take on game development, it`s likely this theme will persist.
While Strange Scaffold developed the initial game, the new installment, ReRaptored, is being handled by Pedalboard Games. This collaboration inaugurates Strange Scaffold`s `Project Share` initiative, designed to grant emerging studios access to their existing codebases for conceptual iteration. Xalavier Nelson Jr. of Strange Scaffold elaborated on this philosophy:
“Beyond music, video games are unique in their ability to transform identical components into fresh, valid, and compelling artistic expressions simply by altering their context. This is evident in the modding scene but largely absent in conventional commercial game development.”
Consequently, Strange Scaffold provided the necessary tools to Pedalboard Games, with original co-lead Colin McInerney overseeing the process, enabling rapid development of the new title.
Nelson Jr. further clarified his vision for the project:
“Although Project Share won`t be a frequent undertaking for Strange Scaffold, we aim for its very existence and transparency to inspire other developers. We hope it encourages them to explore unconventional, non-capitalist methods of resource sharing, fostering mutual survival, and enabling quicker delivery of higher-quality, more sustainable games to players, benefiting everyone.”
Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 is currently available on Steam, with Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 1: ReRaptored slated for release on September 23.
