Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Titles Depart CoD HQ, Paving Way for Black Ops 7

Activision is implementing significant changes to Call of Duty HQ, the central launcher for the latest games in the series. Starting July 29, 2024, Modern Warfare 2 (2022) and Modern Warfare 3 (2023) will be removed from CoD HQ and become available as standalone downloads. Players will need to redownload these titles. Furthermore, on August 7, legacy content associated with MW2 and MW3 modes within CoD HQ will be deleted to free up storage space. Importantly, operators and weapons from MW2 and MW3 for Call of Duty: Warzone will remain unaffected by this change.

These adjustments precede the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 later this year. A Black Ops 7 beta is anticipated to be accessible via CoD HQ before the official release. More detailed information about Black Ops 7 will be unveiled at Gamescom in August.

Black Ops 7 is set in 2035, and developers promise it will be the most “mind-bending” installment in the series. This also marks the first time Activision is releasing Black Ops games in consecutive years, with Treyarch and Raven Software serving as the primary co-developers for both Black Ops 7 and Black Ops 6 (2024).

Call of Duty: Warzone is expected to receive future updates linked to Black Ops 7, and the game`s trailer hinted at a potential new Warzone map. The celebrity cast of Black Ops 7 includes Milo Ventimiglia as David Mason, Kiernan Shipka as Emma Kagan, and Michael Rooker reprising his role as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.

Black Ops 7 is scheduled for release later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While there hasn`t been an announcement regarding a Nintendo Switch 2 version, Activision and Microsoft have reaffirmed their commitment to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms.
