Further insights into Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 were revealed at Gamescom, emphasizing a significant modification to the Omnimovement system with the introduction of “wall-jumping.”
This new mechanic enables players to traverse maps swiftly, a feature that may resonate with long-time Call of Duty fans who recall wall-running from previous titles. Comparisons are being drawn to the exosuit abilities seen in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, suggesting that wall-jumping will indeed create novel tactical opportunities for outmaneuvering opponents.
The addition of wall-jumping is merely one of numerous adjustments made to Black Ops 7`s multiplayer experience.
Key Gameplay Changes and Perks
In Black Ops 7, tactical sprint is no longer a default ability, now requiring a specific perk to activate. Similarly, aiming down sights (ADS) while sliding, diving, or wall-jumping can only be performed if a corresponding perk is equipped. Furthermore, a new “Gung Ho” perk has been introduced, granting players the ability to sprint while simultaneously firing their weapons.
Players can also anticipate a new “active camo” field upgrade in Black Ops 7, which grants temporary invisibility during gameplay.
Manual doors have been removed from multiplayer maps. Unlike Black Ops 6, where players could interact with doors by opening, closing, or peeking through them, in Black Ops 7, these doors are no longer manually operable. Another noteworthy change in Black Ops 7 is the introduction of a new social feature designed to allow players to quickly share their weapon loadouts with others.
New Modes and Content at Launch
Regarding new game modes, Black Ops 7`s multiplayer component now includes a 20v20 “Skirmish” mode, which incorporates unique elements like wingsuits and grappling hooks. This new mode will complement the series` traditional 6v6 map format.
Upon its launch in November, Black Ops 7 will feature 16 6v6 maps—13 of which are entirely new, alongside three remakes from Black Ops 2. The “Skirmish” mode will launch with two dedicated maps. A total of 30 weapons will be available at release, including 28 ranged weapons and two melee options, with 16 of these weapons being brand-new to the Call of Duty franchise.
Upcoming Beta and Release Date
A multiplayer beta for Black Ops 7 is scheduled to begin in early October, providing players with an opportunity to experience some of the game`s new multiplayer features firsthand. The full game is set for release on November 14.
Activision is expected to showcase more of Black Ops 7`s multiplayer aspects during the Call of Duty Next event in September. This event will also provide further details regarding the highly anticipated Zombies mode.
