Borderlands 4 Trailer Introduces Amon’s Axe-Ceptional Skills

Gearbox, the developer behind Borderlands 4, has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Amon, one of the game`s Vault Hunters, as its September launch approaches. Unlike Rafa, who relies on his Tediore exoskeleton and an array of weapons, or Vex with her formidable Siren powers, Amon is designed as a highly adaptable frontline character. He utilizes weaponized drones to either establish robust defenses or unleash devastating offensive attacks.

Like other Vault Hunters, Amon possesses three distinct Action Skills, each capable of being enhanced through Augments and Capstones. Amon`s signature Vault Hunter ability is Forgeskill. This unique trait allows him to activate specialized actions—such as Molten Slam, Firewall, or Double-Edge—by holding down the Action Skill button, with the specific effect depending on the currently equipped skill.

Detailed Look at Amon`s Action Skills (Hold Button)

Molten Slam (with Onslaughter Action Skill equipped)

Holding the Action Skill button causes Amon to powerfully strike the ground with a Molten Forgehammer, inflicting incendiary melee damage over a wide area to all nearby enemies.

Firewall (with Scourge Action Skill equipped)

When the Action Skill button is held, Amon deploys a Firewall. This barrier not only intercepts incoming enemy projectiles but also empowers friendly projectiles that pass through it, granting them increased damage and velocity. If Scourge is active, absorbed damage is converted into Vengeance. Additionally, enemies positioned near the Firewall suffer continuous incendiary status effect damage.

Double-Edge (with Crucible Action Skill equipped)

Pressing and holding the Action Skill button allows Amon to hurl a pair of Forgeaxes. These axes deal cryo melee damage to enemies they strike while traveling outwards, then return to Amon, inflicting incendiary melee damage on their return path.

Amon`s versatile design suggests he can effortlessly transition between defensive and offensive combat roles.

Amon`s Action Skills (Tap Button)

Onslaughter (Calamity skill tree)

Activating Onslaughter overloads Amon`s Forgefist, providing consistent shield regeneration, bonus incendiary damage with firearms, and increased movement speed. A quick tap of the button executes a rocket-powered punch, dealing incendiary melee damage in a short, conical burst. This attack can stagger most enemies, with the exception of bosses.

Scourge (Vengeance skill tree)

With Scourge active, Amon equips a Forgeshield that absorbs all frontal damage, converting it into Vengeance. Once the Vengeance Meter is full, the Forgeshield significantly reduces incoming damage. Vengeance rapidly depletes if not actively replenished. Tapping the Action Skill button unleashes a Forgewave, a projectile dealing cryo ordnance damage to enemies it passes through, with its power amplified by consumed Vengeance.

Crucible (Cybernetics skill tree)

This skill has three charges. It enables Amon to prepare and throw Forge-axes, which can be retrieved from the ground to reduce their cooldown. Amon can throw either a Flame Axe for incendiary melee damage or a Frost Axe for cryo damage. Enemies hit by these Forge-axes are `primed,` causing them to detonate upon defeat or further damage from a Forge-Skill, dealing area-of-effect damage to adjacent foes.

Borderlands 4 is set to release on September 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will follow shortly after, launching on October 3. Gearbox aims for the Switch 2 version to run “mostly around” 30 frames per second and will include support for the Joy-Con 2 controller`s mouse mode.
