Borderlands 4 on Switch 2: Performance and Joy-Con Mouse Controls Revealed

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford has shared further insights into Borderlands 4`s performance and features on the upcoming Switch 2 console, following its confirmed October 3 release date for the platform. Pitchford stated that Gearbox aims for the game to run at a consistent 30 frames per second (FPS) on Switch 2, though he cautioned that frame rate dips might occur during “intense” action sequences. Additionally, Pitchford confirmed that Borderlands 4 will support the Joy-Con 2`s mouse control functionality.

Pitchford emphasized the studio`s dedication to preserving the full game content and ensuring cross-platform playability. He elaborated, “The game will primarily operate around 30 FPS, with some drops during demanding combat scenarios or when hosting multiplayer games in handheld mode.”

For those planning to purchase a physical copy of Borderlands 4 for Switch 2, it`s important to note that a significant download will likely be required. Pitchford indicated that the physical release might be in the form of a “Game-Key Card.” He explained, “It`s a large game. Even physical copies will require a download.”

Game-Key Cards function by using the physical cartridge as an authentication key, allowing the game to be downloaded directly to the console. A notable advantage of these cards is that they are not linked to a specific Nintendo account, enabling them to be shared with others or resold.

Borderlands 4 will also be released for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with these versions launching earlier on September 12. As the game`s release date approaches, Gearbox continues to unveil more details, including new playable characters such as the Siren Vex, information about the numerous in-game collectibles, and the highly anticipated option to silence Claptrap.
