Грант Као, заместитель креативного директора, в беседе с изданием Restart пояснил, что полное сохранение Hyperion в Borderlands 4 было бы нелогичным, хотя отдельные лицензированные компоненты этого бренда всё же могут встречаться.
Причины исключения из геймплея
Као объяснил, что одна из причин связана с уникальной механикой оружия Hyperion: оно было очень неточным в начале стрельбы, но становилось чрезвычайно метким, если игрок удерживал кнопку огня, опустошая примерно половину магазина. Он отметил, что, несмотря на высокую точность в итоге, такая механика не приносила игрокам желаемого комфорта и удовольствия от игрового процесса.
Сюжетное обоснование
Вторая причина исключения Hyperion тесно связана с лором Borderlands. После свержения их харизматичного, но злобного генерального директора Красавчика Джека, который был ключевым антагонистом в предыдущих играх, нет сюжетного обоснования для того, чтобы Hyperion продолжала доминировать на рынке вооружений. Таким образом, Gearbox предоставляет возможность выйти на передний план другим производителям, таким как Maliwan и новый, важный для сюжета Орден.
Borderlands 4 запланирована к выходу 12 сентября для консолей PS5, Xbox Series X|S и ПК. Версия для Nintendo Switch 2 появится позже, 3 октября.
Why Hyperion Weapons Are Absent in Borderlands 4
The Hyperion weapon corporation, whose products were once considered among the best in the Borderlands universe, is sparsely represented in the new game installment — Borderlands 4. This is not an oversight, but a deliberate decision by Gearbox, driven by both narrative and gameplay considerations.
Grant Kao, the associate creative director, explained in an interview with Restart that fully retaining Hyperion in Borderlands 4 wouldn`t be logical, although some licensed components of this brand might still appear.
Gameplay Reasons for Exclusion
Kao clarified that one reason is tied to Hyperion`s unique weapon mechanic: they were highly inaccurate initially, but would become exceptionally precise if the player continuously held the fire button, emptying approximately half the magazine. He noted that, despite ultimately achieving high accuracy, this mechanic didn`t provide players with the desired comfort and enjoyment during gameplay.
Narrative Justification
The second reason for Hyperion`s exclusion is deeply intertwined with the Borderlands lore. Following the downfall of its charismatic yet villainous CEO, Handsome Jack, who was a pivotal antagonist in previous games, there`s no narrative justification for Hyperion to continue dominating the arms market. Thus, Gearbox is allowing other manufacturers, such as Maliwan and the new, narratively significant Order, to take center stage.
Borderlands 4 is scheduled for release on September 12 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will launch later, on October 3.
